Basic Sentence patterns
There are nine basic sentence patterns in English grammar according to my experience. These are (1) subject and intransitive verb (2) Subject, linking verb and complement (3) subject , transitive verb and object (4) Subject , transitive verb , indirect object and direct object (5) Subject , transitive verb, direct object, preposition and indirect object (6) subject, transitive verb, preposition and object (7) subject , transitive , object and complement (8) There , verb and subject and (9) It and verb.
(1) subject and intransitive verb
(a) Birds fly.
(b) Dogs bark.
(c) Cat mew.
(d) Cocks crow.
(e) Lion roars.
(2) Subject, linking verb and complement
According to second patterns, there are nine complement behind the linking verb which are to be “am, is are, was, were, be, being, been , very to be and become , seem , so on.
(1) Noun
(2) Adjective
(3) Pronoun
(4) Ving or present participle
(5) V 3 or part participle
(6) To verb
(7) Adverb
(8) Preposition + noun or pronoun
(9) Clause (noun clause)
(1) Noun complement
I am a student.
(2) Adjective complement
You became rich.
He seemed sad.
(3) Pronoun complement
This is mine.
This pencil was his.
(4) Ing verb or present participle
Mg mg is sleeping.
(5) V3 or past participle
My pencil is broken.
(6) To verb
I am to blame.
Nobody is to know.
(7) Adverb complement
He is here.
Kyaw kyaw was there.
(8) Preposition noun complement
He is in the school.
I am in the house.
She is on the road.
(9) Noun clause
Life is what you make of it.
That is why I hate you.
(3) Subject transitive verb and object
Cows eat grass.
I write a letter.
I eat rice.
(4) Subject , transitive verb, indirect object and direct object
I gave ko ko a book.
He lent me his book.
(5) Subject, transitive verb, direct object, preposition and indirect object
I gave a book to kyaw kyaw
He lent his pen to me.
(6) Subject transitive very and preposition , object
I look at the picture.
She looks for the chimps.
Nurses look after the patient.
(7) Subject, transitive verb, object and complement
They made me.
They made me their leader.
I get my pen repaired.
(8) There , verb , subject
There are flowers.
There is water.
(9) It verb
It rain. (verb)
It snow heavily (adverb)
It is cold. (Adjective)
It is ten O’s clock. (Noun)
It is not safe to go alone in the night.
It is true that birds can count.
It is farmers who produce our food.
